My Sea Shell Collection
We have collected sea shells over the years.  They used to sit in a big box by the fish tank.  Here is what I came up with to display them.
Maybe you have a collection.  This may give you an idea on how to display it.
  • First I layered beach sand on the bottom of a clear jar I bought at a discount store.

Sea Shell Organization...I dropped them in one at a time.

A little jewelled garage sale item I decorated the bottom with.

Hand made cover (optional)
Who wants to clean all of these things???  Not me!!!
  • I made a top 'cover' out of pretty netting fabric.
  • I cut a round circle out of non fraying netted fabric 1/2 inch larger than the top hole.
  • I chose beads that were in the color family as the shells and hand sewed them, following the circle.  I hand sewed them on loosely with heavy biege thread.  They just hang over the outer edge of the rim and prevent dust from getting inside.

My husband asked me why I bought a black suitcase, as he thought it would look like everyone elses!  Well I had something else in mind!

  • WHAT YOU WILL NEED..... A pencil, fine tipped felt pen, and a medium tipped black Sharpy.
  • I sketched the design lightly with a graphite pencil, then traced the lines with a fine tipped felt pen.  I bought this one at an art supply store.
  • I then filled in the outline with a medium tipped  black Sharpy.  I added the white dots with a white paint pen.  And Wha La!!!!

YOU WILL NEED - Acrylic artists paints (White, Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber and Black (optional), Filbert (round tipped) brushes, water and an extender medium. (blue, white and red for the sky.   You can buy these all at a good art supply store.
  • I chose to paint a mid day sky which is quite an intense blue, by mixing ultramarine blue, white and a very little touch of red.
